The Orel Regional Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation continues investigation of a probe under Part 1 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of Russia (murder) into the discovery of a body of a 61-year-old local citizen with signs of violent death in a household territory in Maloarchangelsky District.
During initial investigative actions and search activities investigators established involvement in the committed offence of a 29-year-old previously convicted citizen of Maloarchangelsky District. The suspect tried to hide from the investigation, however, he was arrested in Kursk Region by officers of Customs Directorate of the Kursk Regional Directorate of the Federal Security Service during crossing of state border of the Russian Federation.
During interrogation the suspect confessed under the weight of the evidence gathered and explained that the victim, being a bystander of his theft of scrap metal, gave him a feeling of resentment and fear since she could report the law enforcement bodies about his offence. According to the victim, on the night of October 14, 2019 he came to a house of his fellow villager where he committed an offence against her sexual integrity and then strangled her and hid the body on the garden plot.
Preventive detention of the suspect is being considered; investigative actions, including verification of the suspect's testimony at the scene, aimed to collect and prove evidence are in progress.
