Investigative bodies of the Oryol Regional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, under the investigation of a probe involving the disappearance of a minor, have identified and detained a suspect in the murder of a child with operational support from the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Main Investigative Department.
The investigation established that in July 2005, an 11-year-old child went missing after leaving his grandmother's house in the village of Kazar, Zalegoshchensky district, Orel oblast. Investigative and operational activities have not established his whereabouts. However, investigators and criminologists continued to work to identify the person involved in the crime. The criminal investigation has been repeatedly reopened and its findings heard at meetings of the permanent inter-agency investigative and operational group for the investigation of grave and particularly grave crimes, including those committed in previous years.
As a result of meticulous work by investigators and operatives, a suspect in the crime was identified. It turned out to be a local resident, who is currently being charged with a number of crimes against minors. The man gave detailed testimony about the circumstances of the crime he had committed and, during a field test, gave the approximate location of the dead child's body, which he had hidden in an inaccessible area. A search of the area was carried out with the help of volunteers from the Koster inter-regional search association. During the search, bone remains and items of clothing of the missing juvenile were found. Forensic and DNA examinations have been ordered in the case.
The investigation is scheduled to bring charges against the perpetrator in the near future. The probe is still being investigated and its progress and results are being monitored by the heads of the investigative department.
