On the course of the criminal investigation into the Tupolev-134 airplane crash in the Republic of Karelia

20 June 2011 at about 23.40 a Tupolev-134 airplane of RusAir company carrying out a flight ЛРУ-243 en route Moscow-Domodedovo  - Petrozavodsk crash landed in Prionezhsk area of the Republic of Karelia at the 16th km of the highway “Petrozavodsk – Suoyarvi” near the village Bisovets. A criminal case has been launched on this fact for the crime under part 3, art. 263 of the RF Criminal Code (violation of safety rules and operation of air transport, resulting in the death of two or more people).

To coordinate the work of investigation group of the Russian Investigative Committee the Chairman of the Investigative Committee has gone to Karelia at the Tu-134crash site. According to the statement of registration, there were 43 passengers and 9 crew members on board. 44 people died on the spot, eight were hospitalized, three of them died in hospital.

During the examination of the scene the bodies of all 44 victims have been found and withdrawn. All of them are identified. Dispersion of the plane fragments was about 300 meters. The flight recorder has been found and withdrawn. At the airport in Petrozavodsk records of negotiations between earth services and flight crew have been withdrawn and the weather data requested. In Domodedovo Airport in Moscow, the investigators of the General Investigative Office have withdrawn all necessary documentation, and samples of fuel. Voice and data parametric recorders of the plane are now being transcribed together with specialists from the IAC. Pieces of the crashed aircraft have been removed from the crash site to a specially designated areas. Russian Investigative Committee forensic experts and specialists in the field of aviation will work with them. Investigators are studying the technical documentation withdrawn from airports “Besovets” and "Domodedovo”. To date, a number of people have been interviewed.

In addition, other investigative actions aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the crash are being conducted. The investigation is considering several versions of this accidents: the human factor: pilot or airport ground services error, unfavorable weather conditions, as well as technical malfunction of the aircraft or airport equipment, and others.
