In Saint-Petersburg investigation completed against members of organized criminal group of ex-policemen charged with several felonies

Saint-Petersburg investigating bodies of Russia’s Investigative Committee have finished investigating a criminal case against former officials of Vasileostrovsky District Internal Affairs Directorate Stanislav Bogonenko, Oleg Alekseev, Alexander Gustinovich, Igor Kekshin and Andrey Bushuev. Depending on the role of each one, they are charged with several crimes under paragraphs “a” and “b” of part 3 of article 286 (exceeding official powers with the use of violence and of arms or special means), paragraph “a” of part 4 of article 158 (theft committed by an organized group), paragraph “a” of part 3 of article 161 of RF Criminal Code (robbery committed by an organized group).

According to investigators, in 2005 senior police operative agent Bogonenko with the aim of violent and mercenary crimes against real-estate agents, set up a criminal group consisting of his colleagues. In the period between July 2005 and May 2008, using operational information about big commercial deals obtained during fulfilling of their duties, they unlawfully detained businessmen. During detainment, they were stealing form the victims’ offices or flats money or other property. Then members of the criminal group unlawfully held businessmen in the building of Internal Affairs Directorate, where they were tortured and abused and extorted money. The policemen involved people from the outside for one-time criminal errands or help during direct criminal actions. In all, during its existence, the criminal group has committed 8 official and 5 property crimes.

Investigators have collected sufficient evidence therefore the criminal case with the indictment has been sent to the court to be tried on the merits.
