Republic of Ingushetia investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have initiated a criminal case on signs of crimes under article 317 (encroachment on lives of law enforcement officials), part 2 of article 222 of the Russian Criminal Code (illegal handling of firearms).

According to investigators, on 18 August at about 10:40 p.m. in Oksanova Street of the town of Malgobek unknown people opened fire from automatic firearms on the district police officer of Malgobeksky district Department of Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs Ilez Korigov, 26. He died in Malgobek district hospital of sustained gun wounds. Cartridge cases of 7.62 and 5.45 mm have been found and seized from the crime scene.

At present search and investigation operations are under way to find out all the circumstances of the crime and to identify the persons involved. Investigation is to be continued.
