Investigators continue inquiring into reasons of An-2 emergency landing in Sverdlovsk Regions

Investigating bodies of the Urals Transport Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continue pre-investigative check into the An-2 emergency landing in the Sverdlovsk Regions.

On 29 September 2012, at 10.45 local time, An-2 crash landed at anti-fire forest belt 100 meters away from the village of Polunochny, Ivdel district, Sverdlovsk Region due to lack of fuel. As a result of the incident one of the passengers suffered injuries to ankle joints and chest in front and behind. The plane damaged airscrew, fin, engine deck and left wing.

At present investigators have already examined the accident scene and the plane and established that the plane was overturned with damages to a top wing and fan. The plane is owned by OAO Factory ELKAP (OJSC) was manufactured in Poland by PZL-MIELEC, has total flight time of 2,700 hours, the last capital repair was carried out in July 2011.

The pilot of the plane has total flight time of more than 2,200 hours, including 2,000 accident-free hours on An-2.

At present investigators and criminologists of the Urals Transport Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have interrogated the captain of the aircraft and passengers, the residents of the village Polunochny who saw the crash landing have been identified and interrogated as well as Ambulance doctors. During the examination the investigators seized a flight log, flight manual, airworthiness certificate, civil aircraft registration certificate, board wireless permission and other documents.

Today investigators are planning additional examination of the plane with the participation of specialists from Air Transport Federal Agency and other urgent checks.

At present circumstances and causes of the accident are being established. A procedural decision will be made following the results of the check.
