In Komi Republic arrest time extended for Makhmudovs brothers and Valentin Gadzhiyev charged with arson of Passazh mall in Ukhta in 2005

The Supreme Court of Komi Republic with the participation of jury continues listening to a criminal case accusing brothers Farkhutdin and Astret Makhmudovs and Valintin Gadzhiyev of organizing arson of Passazh shopping mall on 11 July 2005 in the town of Ukhta. The fire killed 25 and 11 people received injuries of different gravity. The fire completely destroyed the shopping mall owned by sole proprietors which represents a damage of 30 million rubles.

The Komi Republic investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee the Makhmudovs and Gadzhiyev depending on the role of each one are charged with crimes under paragraphs “a”, “c” and “d” of part 2 of article 163 of the RF Criminal Code (extortion committed by on a large scale by a group of persons under preliminary conspiracy and using violence); part 3 of article 33, part 2 of article 167 (willful destruction or damage of other people's property entailing considerable damage); paragraphs “a”, “f” and “g” of part 2 of article 105 (organization of murder of two or more persons committed by a group under a preliminary conspiracy by a generally dangerous way); part 3 of article 33, paragraphs “a” and “b” of part 3 of article 111 (organization of intentional infliction of a grave injury committed by a group of persons under a preliminary conspiracy by a generally dangerous way against two persons); part 3 of article 33, paragraphs “a” and “d” of part 2 of article 112 (organization of intentional infliction of injury of average gravity committed by a group of persons under a preliminary conspiracy against two persons); part 3 of article 33, part 1 of article 115 of the RF Criminal Code (organization of intentional infliction of light injury).

A criminal case against the third brother Magomed Makhmudov who is internationally wanted has been severed into a separate lawsuit.

The term of arrest for the accused is extended till 17 January 2013.
