Experienced specialists from Central Office of the Investigative Committee sent in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District to render practical help in investigating murder of two officials of Surgut administration

The Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District-Yugra investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have launched a criminal case against a 35-year-old resident of the city of Surgut. He is suspected of crimes under paragraphs “a” and “b” of part 2 of article 105 (murder of two people in connection with their official activity) and part 1 of article 222 of the RF Criminal Code (illegal storage and carrying of firearms).

According to investigators, on 19 October 2012, around 11 a.m. officials of Surgut city administration with the purpose of demolition of illegally constructed building – a tie fitting shop near shopping mall Gera on Geologicheskaya Street in Surgut, arrived with the order to the owner of the building. In response to legal demands to vacate the premises and not to prevent demolition the owner’s son shot two times at the officials’ heads. As a result of the wounds one of them died on the spot and the second an hour later at a resuscitation department of a city hospital.

At present the suspect is detained and pre-trial custodial restraining measure and arraignment are under discussion.

Investigating operations are underway to establish all the circumstances of the crime. Investigation is to be continued.

Experienced specialists from Central Office of the Investigative Committee were sent from Moscow to Surgut to render practical assistance in the investigation. Investigation is taken under control by senior officials of the Russia’s Investigative Committee.
