Criminal investigation launched in church arson in Tatarstan

In the evening of 28 November 2013, unidentified persons in the village of Albay, Mamadyshsky district set fire to the church Yan Krestil built in 1873. The investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee in the Republic of Tatarstan have launched a criminal investigation into the fact as containing signs of crimes under part 2 of article 148 of the RF Penal Code (violation of the right on freedom of conscience and religion committed in the places specially intended for divine services, other religious rites and ceremonies), part 2 of article 167 (deliberate destruction or damage of property committed out of hooliganism by arson), part 2 of article 214 (vandalism committed by a group of people motivated by political, ideological, racial, national or religious hatred).

At present search and investigating operations are underway to identify the persons involved in the crime and find all the circumstances. Investigation is ongoing.
