Former official of Moscow Inter-Regional Transport Prosecutor’s Office found guilty of bribery

Court has found the evidence gathered by the Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee enough to convict former deputy head of the office for supervising on observance of federal laws in transport and customs areas – head of the office for supervising on observance of federal laws in transport in Moscow Inter-Regional Transport Prosecutor’s Office Denis Yevdokimov and an acquaintance of his Igor Ozarzhitsky. Depending on the role of each one they were found guilty of crimes under part 6 of article 290 of the RF Penal Code (bribery), part 4 of article 291.1 (mediation in bribery).

The court and investigation have found that in January-February 2013 Yevdokimov checked the report made by a citizen claiming the facts of sham utilization of used sleepers. During the check, realizing that the work of the firms was practically paralyzed by numerous appeals to supervising bodies and business partners, while the management had no opportunity to make economic deals and naturally money, the accused using his official position decided to take advantage of the situation and involved his acquaintance Ozarzhitsky. The latter agreed to be a mediator in bribery and having introduced himself as Yevdakimov’s authorized delegate, demanded from a representative of a firm 5 million rubles for stopping the check, 750 thousand of the sum he took as a fee for his services. In March 2013, Ozarzhitsky received the said sum and the day later gave 4 million 250 thousand rubles to Yevdokimov. Later the accused were detained by law enforcement agents.

The court sentenced Yevdokimov to 8 years in a maximum-security prison and a fine of 350 million rubles, stripped him of his rank and banned from occupying state positions for three years, Ozarzhitsky – to 7 years in a maximum-security prison and a fine of 350 million rubles.
