Chuvash Supreme court judge suspected of violating road traffic rules involving by negligence death of a person

Chairman of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has initiated criminal proceedings against judge of Supreme Court in the Republic of Chuvashia Andrey Yemelyanov. he is suspected of a crime under part 3 of article 264 of the RF Criminal Code (violation of traffic rules involving by negligence death of a person).

According to investigators, on 6 December 2011, about 5:20 p.m. at the 30th motorway, not far from road ring of Kommunalnaya Sloboda in Cheboksary, the suspect on a Chery without taking account of traffic and weather conditions, as well as density of the traffic approaching an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing didn’t take any measures to bring down the speed and didn’t make sure that there were no persons going across the crossing. As a result he ran over a 34-year-woman from Cheboksary, who was crossing the road at the uncontrolled pedestrian crossing. The woman died on the spot of the injuries sustained as a result of a traffic accident. Supreme qualifying panel of judges of the Russian Federation based on the materials presented by investigators, granted their consent on initiating criminal proceedings.

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee ordered the Chuvash Republic Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee to investigate the case. At present investigating actions are underway to establish all the circumstances of the incident and to consolidate the evidence. The progress of the investigation is under control in the Central Office of the Russia’s Investigative Committee.
