In Stavropol Territory Vladimir Ambartsumov charged with sexual abuse and murder of 9-year-old Anna Prokopenko to appear in court

The Stavropol Territory investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have finished investigating a criminal case against Vladimir Ambartsumov, 30. He is charged with crimes under paragraph “c” of part 3 of article 132 (sexual violence), part 1 of article 131 (rape), part 1 of article 132 (sexual violence), paragraph “b” of part 4 of article 131 (rape), paragraph “b” of part 4 of article 131 (rape), paragraph “b” of part 4 of article 132 (sexual violence), paragraphs “c” and “j” of part 2 of article 105 of the RF Criminal Code (murder).

According to investigators, on 23 July 2012, Ambartsumov, having encountered Anna Prokopenko on the street, introduced himself as sales representative of a cosmetics company and offered the girl to earn some money. For that he offered the girl to go to the office of the company, but lured the child into the forest, where he raped and sexually abused her. After that he strangled the girl and hid the body in the same forest covering it with elements of roofing slate.

In addition, during inquiry, investigators have found more crimes committed by Ambartsumov. Namely, on 3 July 2012, he raped a young woman in Pyatigorsk and in September 2004 pretending to help with a leak in a bathroom, came in one of the flats in a block of flats in Pyatigorsk and sexually abused a 12-year-old girl, who was in the flat without parents.

In connection with the fact that DNA and other forensic expert examinations have not been completed so far and there is necessity in reading the criminal case by victims and the accused, the time of investigation has been extended to 6 months, that is – up to 24 January 2013.

The criminal case with the approved indictment has been forwarded to the court to be tried on the merits.
