In Mordovia former chief of traffic police suspected of bribery

The investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee in the Republic of Mordovia have launched an investigation against former chief of the office of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate in the Republic of Mordovia Alexander Sheludyakov, 57. He is suspected of the crime under paragraphs “b” and “c” of part 5 of article 290 of the RF Penal Code (receiving a large bribe with extortion).

According to investigators, in September 2013, chief of the office of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate in the Republic of Mordovia, Police Colonel Sheludyakov demanded from one of his subordinates a bribe of 500 thousand rubles for general patronage on service and for letting him stay on the same position despite the drawbacks in work. The man reported the demand of his superior to the republic’s office of the Federal Security Service and the transfer of the money was controlled by the operative agents.

At present investigating operations are underway to find all the circumstances of the crime and consolidate the evidence. Investigation is ongoing.
