In Volgograd Region pre-investigating check launched in crash of single-engine plane killing pilot

The Southern Transport Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee is carrying out a pre-investigating check into a crash of a single-engine plane in Kotelnikovo district, Volgograd Region. The pilot of the plane died at the scene of the injuries.

According to investigators, on 19 April 2014, a single-engine plane for agricultural chemical air operations with a Rotax engine in the back of the plane crashed at about 2 PM near the village of Poperechny, Kotelnikovo district, Volgograd Region. The 46-year-old former Russian Air Force pilot died at the crash scene. There were no other victims or damages. The plane belonged to the pilot and has no identifying signs or hull No, neither any technical documents nor flight permission. Initial investigation has shown that the aim of the flight was examination and survey of the area for future air chemical operations.

The investigators of the Southern Transport Investigations Directorate have examined the crash scene and assigned a forensic medical expert examination of the pilot’s body to be run. During the examination of the scene experts have taken pictures, samples of fuel to run lab tests and find the reason of the crash. At present checks are underway to find out all the circumstances of the crash. A procedural decision will be made following the results of the check.
