Flat and offices of head of Vsevolzhsky municipal district administration searched under criminal investigation over murder of chief architect of Vsevolzhsky district

Leningrad Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continued investigating a criminal case over murder of head of architecture and town building office of Vsevolzhsky municipal district Eduard Akopyan, 51.

According to investigators, Akopyan was killed in the evening of 29 January 2013 near the office of the firm Vsevsad, in house No 184 in Koltushsky Shosse in Vsevolzhsk, Leningrad Region. About 8 PM he arrived at the Vsevsad office to meet his wife after work. About half an hour later he went outside to prepare the car to set off. A bit later his wife found him lying on the ground with blood all over him. Akopyan died of the wounds in the ambulance on his way to the hospital. It is known that Akopyan was head of architecture and town building office of Vsevolzhsky municipal district for 25 years.

Dmitry Baranov, a 36-year-old resident of Vyborg, Leningrad Region, previously convicted of murder was held on suspicions of this crime.

At present, investigators are checking Alexander Sobolenko, head of Vsevolzhsky municipal district administration for involvement in masterminding the crime. According to investigators Sobolenko might be involved in crimes connected with illegal allocation and distribution of lands in Vsevolzhsky district.

As part of investigation and based on orders of the investigator of the local Investigative Committee Sobolenko’s flats and offices are being searched.

In addition, the court is now trying a criminal case against Sobolenko over his acceding official powers (paragraph “a” of part 3 of article 286 of the RF Criminal Code). According to investigators, on 23 April 2012, during a personal reception he beat up three citizens doing them bodily harm.
