By order of Alexander Bastrykin, Russia’s Investigative Committee organized procedural check over sexual violence and abuse committed in U.S. against young girl adopted in 2002

By order of Alexander Bastrykin, the Main Investigation Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia organized a procedural check over the information about sexual violence and abuse committed in the state of Texas against a 12-year-old Russian citizen (the girl's name is not disclosed in her interests) adopted from the Amur orphanage in 2002, received through the Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry.

According to the available data, a girl born in 2000 was adopted by the residents of Texas in 2002. A year later, the adoptive father inflicted a serious injury upon a child (spine fracture), which resulted in legs paralysis. Since then, she cannot walk and uses a wheelchair. The district court imposed a sentence of 16 year imprisonment upon the adoptive father and the adoptive mother was sentenced to 10 months in prison. After the trial, social protection authorities handed the Russian girl over to another American family having a license for custody and five more foster children.

Subsequently, according to a witness, the girl was the victim of ill-treatment and sexual abuse by a family friend - a parishioner of the Baptist Church in Ohio. The adoptive mother allowed the parishioner to commit sexual abuse against a minor in exchange for money and gifts. The foster father argued against such a relationship, but could not prevent them (in July, 2012, he committed suicide.) Sexual abuse of a child stopped only after the death of the men.

A number of urgent investigating actions to establish the circumstances of sexual assault against a minor citizen of Russia and identify other circumstances of the offense have been scheduled.
