In Volga Federal District, gang members accused of committing serious crimes face trial

The Investigation Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in the Volga Federal District has completed the investigation of the criminal case against 53-year-old Mikhail Mayorov, 52-year-old Nicholai Sharov, and 30-year-old Yuri Platitsyn accused of banditry (Article 209 of the Criminal Code), murder (Article 105 Criminal Code), illegal arms trafficking (Article 222 of the Criminal Code) and other crimes.

According to investigators, in the summer of 2010, wanting to take over his friend and his companion’s construction business in Saratov, Mayorov decided to create a stable armed group (gang), and shared his plans with previously convicted Sharov, who had experience in dealing with weapons, and who, in turn, involved Platitsyn in criminal activities. To arm the gang, Mayorov provided Sharov with funds for the purchase of rifled firearms, major parts and ammunition.

At the same time Mayorov learned that the resident of Saratov, whose business he wanted to take over, is acquainted with the Saratov Regional Duma deputy, who could create impediments to his criminal intent.

Then Mayorov decided to murder a political figure and assigned it to Platitsyn.

Since the spring of 2011, by order of Mayorov, Sharov had been carefully teaching Platitsyn to use firearms, portable communications and covert surveillance.

Then, in June 2011, in the city of Saratov, Platitsyn fired at least 14 aimed sub-machine gun shots at a passing by "Mercedes" in which there were a deputy and accompanying persons, one of whom received a gunshot injury that caused the death.

The investigators collected sufficient evidence, for which reason a criminal case with the indictment approved by Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation has been sent to the court for consideration on the merits.
