Personnel of Investigative Committee take part in meeting of RF Public Chamber

Hearings of federal bill “On amendments to Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation due to introduction of establishing unbiased truth in criminal case” have taken place today in the RF Public Chamber.

The meeting was attended by member of the Public Chamber Olga Kostina, vice-chairman of the Committee of the State Duma for civil, criminal, arbitration and procedural legislation Alexander Remezkov, head of Main Organization and Inspector Office of the Russia’s Investigative Committee Anatoly Korotkov, Head of Media Relations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee Vladimir Markin, acting chief of criminal forensic office of Moscow prosecutor’s office Alexey Tsaryov, chairman of human rights charity organization Committee for Civil Rights, member of the Council of the RF President for development of civil society and human rights Andrey Babushkin, director of autonomous non-commercial organization Human Rights Institution Valentin Gefter, president of Guild of Russian Lawyers Gasan Mirzoyev.

After the reports made by State Duma deputy Alexander Remezkov and employee of Main Organization and Inspector Office of the Russia’s Investigative Committee Georgy Smirnov, the participants discussed how the bill would affect the adversary nature of preliminary investigation. Head of Main Organization and Inspector Office of the Russia’s Investigative Committee Anatoly Korotkov and Head of Media Relations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee Vladimir Markin took part in the discussion. The bill was supported by Mr. Remezkov, famous scientists of criminal procedure law Anatoly Belkin and Leonid Golovko, lawyers Gasan Merzoyev and Alexander Karabanov. Thus, the majority of those participating in the discussion recognized the urgency of the bill and agreed with the necessity of the reform suggested by the Investigative Committee.
