Criminal cases over threats to governors filed in single lawsuit

The Russia’s Investigative Committee has decided to file in a single lawsuit criminal cases under part 1 of article 318 of the RF Penal Code (threats to use force against a representative of the authority or their families due to their official duties) over threats made to heads of a number of RF subjects. The case has been passed to the Central Federal District Investigations Directorate for organization of a probe.

According to investigators, during several days governors of Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk and Voronezh regions and other subjects received threats of violence against them and their families in connection with the situation in Ukraine. Namely, the governor of Voronezh Region got an email from unidentified people on behalf of one of Ukraine’s radical right-wing organizations demanding to “publicly reject the Russian President’s actions in Ukraine, resign immediately, and announce that the Voronezh Region intent to join Ukraine or kill himself”. In case of disobedience they threaten to kill the governor.

During the inquiry the Investigative Committee is going to identify the people, who made those threats and prosecute them under the laws of the Russian Federation. Investigation is ongoing.
