In North Ossetia-Alania lawyer representing Russians in European Court of Human Rights charged with fraud on especially massive scale

The investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee in the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania continue investigating a criminal case against Taisia Baskayeva, 56, a lawyer of the Moscow Region Lawyers Board, charged with crimes under part 2 of article 159 of the RF Penal Code (fraud – 2 counts) and part 3 of article 159 (fraud on an especially massive scale – 40 counts).

According to investigators, on 19 February 2013, the European Court of Human Rights awarded over 26.5 million rubles in damages to 42 former and current employees of the Russian Emergencies Ministry in the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania for serving in the area of emergency conflict in the republic. The employees’ interests were represented by the lawyer of the Moscow Region Lawyers Board. Later by deceit she organized transfer of the money to her own bank account and deceiving her principals about the true sum of damages tried to get from them receipts on full sums. As a result of the lawyer’s illegal actions the victims suffered loss of over 26.5 million rubles. After that the woman escaped and was internationally wanted. She was charged in absentia.

Thanks to efficient investigating and search operations the woman has been detained in Moscow Region and transported to the site of investigation.

At the investigators’ petition the court ruled to take the accused in custody and charged with the said crimes. Investigating operations necessary to consolidate the evidence are underway. Investigation is ongoing.
