Criminal case over assault on head of Rostov Region Traffic Police Office passed to Southern Federal District Investigations Directorate

The Southern Federal District Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has accepted for investigation a criminal case opened in using force dangerous for life and health and intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm to head of the Rostov Region Traffic Police Office of the Russian Interior Ministry Sergey Morgachev (part 2 of article 318 of the RF Penal Code, paragraph “a” of part 3 of article 111).

According to investigators, in the morning of 25 March 2014, two men hit Morgachev on his head and body with wooden sticks near the elevators on the 16th floor of a block of flats in Lenin Street in the city of Rostov-on-Don. The victim was hospitalized with an open craniocelebral trauma and numerous fractures of facial bones. The circumstances of the crime indicate that the assault was carefully planned, prepared and carried out in connection with his professional activity.

At present a number of investigating and search operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the crime and identify the people involved. Investigation is ongoing.
