In Moscow Federal Penitentiary Service official suspected of embezzlement

The Central Federal District Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has launched a criminal investigation against an official of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service. The official is suspected of a crime under part 3 of article 285 of the RF Penal Code (abuse of office).

According to investigators, in 2013 the official responsible for the capital construction in the Federal Penitentiary Service acting in the interests of the senior officials of a commercial organization ensured that the general contractor concluded with the organization a subcontract worth over 344 million rubles on constructing a building in the city of Tver. Despite the fact that the subcontractor made a bad work the accused ensured that the money was transferred to his account in late 2013 for the work, which actually was not done. As a result the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service sustained a loss of about 20 million rubes.

At present urgent investigating operations are underway, including searches in the offices and the residence of the accused.

It should be noted that the crime had been detected with active participation of internal security of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service. The investigations are going to find out the official’s motive. Investigation is ongoing.
