In Moscow former official of military registration and enlistment office and acting head of district board get 7 years in jail and 10 million of fine each

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the 517th military investigations department of the Russia’s Investigative Committee sufficient to convict former head of the department of the Mitino district military registration and enlistment office in the city of Northwestern administrative district of Moscow Eduard Zhukov and former acting of Kurkino district board in Moscow Vladimir Kusochkin. Depending on the role of each one, they were found guilty of crimes under paragraph “c” of part 5 of article 290 of the RF Penal Code (bribery on an especially large scale), paragraph “b” of part 3 of article 291.1 (intermediary in bribery on an especially large scale).

The court and investigators found that in May 2013, a woman from Moscow appealed to Kusochkin asking to help her son to dodge the draft. Agreeing to pay 4,000 euros for handling the matter, the woman, acting on the Kusochkin’s instructions came to Zhukov’s office and gave him a half of the sum. After the draft board had passed a decision to release the young man from military service due to poor health and to enlist him in the reserve of the Russian Armed Forces, the woman gave to Kusochkin the rest of the money.

The court has sentenced Zhukov and Kusochkin to 7 years to be served in a maximum-security penal colony each, banned them from occupying any positions connected with organizational and managerial functions in state authorities for 3 years and a fine of 10 million 202 thousand 112 rubles.
