In Tyumen Region investigation against three under ATR-72 crash investigation finished

The investigating bodies of the Ural Transport Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have finished investigating a criminal case against a shiftman, aircraft mechanic of OOO YUTair-Technic and the captain of the aircraft. They are charged with a crime under part 3 of article 263 of the RF Criminal Code (violation of safety and operation rules of air transport entailing by negligence death of two or more people).

According to investigators, on 2 April 2012, an ATR-72 plane of OAO YUTair airlines travelling from Tyumen to Surgut took off from the Roshchino airport in the city of Tyumen and crashed within 1.5 km off the runway near the village of Gorkovka, Tyumen district, Tyumen Region. 33 people were killed in the crash and 10 more injured.

The ATR-72 was operated by OAO Airlines YUTair.

The immediate cause of the crash was snow and ice cover on the plane formed during its stop, incomplete preparation of the plane for the flight, including failure to treat the plane in order to prevent it from covering in ice.

There have been 57 expert examinations run during the probe. They include forensic medical, commission forensic analysis of fuels and lubricants, aviation technical examination and forensic ones. There are over 130 volumes in the criminal case.

The investigators have gathered enough evidence, therefore, the case has been sent for the indictment to be approved and further on to court to be tried on the merits.
