The court and investigators have found that on 27 September 2009, Khabib Umakhanov, Gilani Saipov and other accomplices drove a Mitsubishi Pajero up to a building in Novocheryomushkinskaya Street in Moscow, where head of Khazavyurt District Alimsoltan Alkhamatov lived. As a result of the attack, Alkhamatov was killed on the spot and Mitikov was badly wounded. Saipov was driving the Mitsubishi Pojero and was to get the killers out from the scene, but lost control of the car and they had to flee in a Mercedes S350 with Khabib Budaykhanov at the wheel. They had to run away leaving behind the car and the guns. During a search of the crime scene the investigators seized 6 submachine guns – 2 AKS-74U, 4 tommy guns Scorpion, silencers, balaclavas and gloves. Budaykhanov failed to escape and was detained by law enforcement officers.

The investigators have done a lot of work to identify all the persons involved in the crime committed 4 years ago and gather evidence. Investigating operations were carried out in several subjects of the Russian Federation and in Germany. A large number of complex expert examinations have been run, including ballistics, dactylographic, medical, DNA and handwriting ones. Umakhanov fully admitted his guilt under the load of evidence.

The court has sentenced Umakhanov to 15 years in prison to be served in a maximum-security penal colony.
