Criminal investigation launched in shelling of Rostov Region customs checkpoint from Ukrainian side

The investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee for the Southern Federal District have opened a criminal case against unidentified people over signs of crimes under part 3 of article 30, paragraphs “a”, “f” and “g” of part 2 of article 105 of the RF Penal Code (attempted murder of two or more people committed by a group of people by a generally dangerous way).

According to investigators, on 3 July 2014, military servants of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, members of the National Guard and militant of the Right Sector from the Ukrainian side shelled the customs post of the motor checkpoint Novoshakhtinsk in Krasny Sulin, Rostov Region with the purpose of intentional killing of those inside.

As a result of the said illegal actions, an oval-shaped shell hole was found in the road near the unit of deep examination and bus depot of Novoshakhtinsk checkpoint. In addition there are a lot of reach-through holes and blind openings of irregular shape in the walls of buildings and structures of the customs checkpoint. The throwout of shrapnel was between 30 and 200 meters. All that indicates, that that those firing had intentions to kill Russian citizens in the checkpoint.

All the people were evacuated to safe places. Thanks to that numerous casualties among the civilians were avoided.

At present investigating and search operations are under way to find out all the circumstances of the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
