A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee sufficient to convict former mayor of the city of Astrakhan Mikhail Stolyarov. He was found guilty of a crime under part 6 of article 290 of the RF Penal Code (taking a bribe on a very large scale).

The court and investigators have found that on 13 November 2013 Stolyarov received from a representative of a commercial organization a bribe of 10 million rubles for letting a piece of land on lease and demanded to register on the name of his principle 25.1% of the authorized capital of the company. His illegal activity was broken by law enforcement officials right after he took the money.

The court has sentenced Stolyarov to 10 years in jail and a fine of 500 million rubles.
