Former chief doctor of Chelyabinsk town clinical hospital found guilty of mediation in bribery

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee in the city of Yekaterinburg sufficient to convict former chief doctor of Chelyabinsk town clinical hospital No 4 Mikhail Shukhovtsev. He was found guilty of a crime under part 4 of article 291.1 of the RF Penal Code (mediation in bribery).

The court and investigators have found that in the period between March and October 2012, Shukhovtsev being chief doctor at Chelyabinsk city clinical hospital No 4 passed a bribe in parts from a supplier of high-tech medical equipment from Moscow he was acquainted with to Vitaly Teslenko, Minister of Health in the Chelyabinsk Region at the time, for assisting in concluding and paying for state contracts. The overall sum Shukhovtsev passed as a cash bribe stood at over 21 million rubles. However, Shukhovtsev failed to complete the criminal intention, which was to pass Teslenko another 20 million rubles, as the former was detained by the police.

The court has sentenced Shukhovtsev to 3.5 years in a maximum-security penal colony and a 100 million rubles fine.

Earlier the court has sentenced Vitaly Teslenko to 7 years to be served in a maximum-security penal colony and a 300 million rubles fine.
