Criminal investigation launched in shelling of school in Donetsk

The Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has launched a criminal investigation in a crime under paragraphs “a”, “c”, “f”, “g” and “i” of part 2 of article 105 of the RF Penal Code, part 1 of article 356 (aggravated homicide; use of forbidden means and methods of warfare).

According to investigators, on 5 November 2014, at around 5 PM, militants of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and National Guard following the orders of commanders and officials of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, Ukrainian Armed Forces and National Guard shelled from heavy weapons school No 63 in Stepanenko street in the city of Donetsk. Two teenagers were killed, three more were sounded.

The investigators believe that the said officials organized artillery shelling to wipe out a national Russian-speaking group living in the self-declared republic of Donetsk. By doing so, they breached provisions of a number of international conventions, including the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and Minsk Ceasefire Protocol and its Memorandum signed in September this year.

The said criminal case has been joined in a single proceeding with the main criminal case over use of prohibited means and methods of warfare and genocide of civilians living in the self-declared republics of Donetsk and Luhansk.
