Heavy hauler driver suspected of traffic accident killing six including three minors detained in Nizhny Novgorod Region

On 5 November 2014, at 12:30 PM, a traffic accident involving a PAZ bus and a heavy hauler happened on Kasimov-Ryazhsk highway near the village of Antsiferovo in Navashino District, Nizhny Novgorod Region. 6 people, including three minors: a 7-year-old boy, 12-year-old girl and 17-year-old girl were killed in the accident.

Investigators of the local office of the Russian Ministry of Interior have launched a criminal case into a crime under part 5 of article 264 of the RF Penal Code (violation of highway regulations by a driver entailing death of two or more people by negligence). Due to special importance and the resonance of the crime, the prosecutor commissioned the case to investigators of the Russia’s Investigative Committee.

The Investigative Committee investigators have detained a 24-year-old driver of a MAZ truck.

According to the investigators, the truck driver was moving from Nizhny Novgorod and on a sharp bend drove out to the wrong side of the road and collided with a trailer with a wooden beam inside and the bus. According to the latest data 21 people were injured in the accident, 6 of them died. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals. Operations at the scene are continued. The number of victims is being specified.

At present the investigators are questioning the suspect to find out all the circumstances of the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
