Investigators got evidence of involvement of so-called GTA gang in killing drivers in Moscow and Moscow Region

The Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continues actively investigating crimes committed by so-called GTA gang.

According to investigators, there were at least 10 people in the gang. One of the gang’s organizers fought back using firearms and was killed. Two of the gangsters have already been arrested. The investigators are going to file a request to arrest three more. Apprehension of the rest of the gangsters is only a matter of time.

It should be noted that the suspects were held in different regions of Russia, some of them had managed to escape far from Moscow Region. One of the gangsters was held over a thousand kilometers away from the capital. One of the most active members of the gang, he lived and worked in a holiday house in Krasnogorsk District owned by a resident of Moscow Region. He was the one who provided the gang with weapons. For that he had special equipment, including a mini turning lathe, which he had used to remake nonlethal guns in lethal ones. Moreover, he had improvised a sniper rifle. In all, the investigators confiscated from the gang’s caches over 20 pieces of firearms and ammunitions. The gangsters had used and were going to use the guns to kill drivers and passengers on the roads in Moscow and outside it. There is no doubt that those were the guns used by the gang, this has been confirmed by inquiries.

At present necessary investigative and procedural operations are conducted with the detainees. During questionings they are telling about their crimes. And I have to dispel completely statements of some mass media claiming that the assaults were motivated by national, religious or any other non-mercenary reasons. As I have said before the main motive for the murders was robbery. The detainees’ statements and other evidence show that they killed indiscriminately, independent of nationality or social status of victims. Often they found but little money and had to go with that. In all, the gang committed at least 14 murders on the roads in Moscow and just outside it alone. But the investigators are going to check if the gang was involved in other such crimes.

This way the investigators are sure that they caught the very same mob that held Moscow drivers in abject terror. Thanks to professional and coherent work of operatives of the Russian Ministry of Interior and Federal Security Service, investigators and criminalists of the Russia’s Investigative Committee the gang was destroyed forever.

Now the investigators are going to find out other crimes the gang was involved into, collect evidence of guilt of each one of the gangsters so that they could appear before court and be brought to justice. The punishment they are facing is up to life imprisonment.
