Investigators check mayor of Nizhny Novgorod on illegal involvement in business activity

The Nizhny Novgorod Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee are carrying out procedural checks regarding mayor of the city of Nizhny Novgorod Oleg Sorokin and other officials on their possible illegal involvement in business activity.

It has been revealed that in 2011-2012, administration of Nizhny Novgorod held tenders selling the right to conclude contracts on development of built-up area in Nizhny Novgorod District and leasing of 14 pieces of land in Nizhny Novgorod Region. Following the tenders, the contracts were signed with OOO RegionInvest52 (LLC) and OOO Ingradstroy (LLC) affiliated by Sorokin’s close relatives.

At present investigators are looking at the circumstances under which the deals were concluded and at actual involvement of the mayor in management of the companies. In addition, the Nizhny Novgorod Region Investigations Directorate are checking whether Sorokin followed requirements of the Federal Law “On fighting corruption” of 25.12.2008 No 273-FZ during the said tenders.

Procedural decision will be taken following the checks.
