Alexander Bastrykin holds briefing in Sochi

Chairman of the Russia’s Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin has held a briefing in the city of Sochi. The meeting was attended by Vice-Chairman of the Russia’s Investigative Committee Boris Karnaukhov, heads of the North-Caucasian Federal District Main Investigations Directorate and the Krasnodar Territory Investigations Directorate.

During the meeting Mr. Bastrykin heard a report on the performance of investigating bodies and results of the work of an interagency task force set up on the order of the Russian President for coordination of activity of law enforcement bodies in investigating and solving terrorist attacks and resonating crimes in Ciscaucasia.

The meeting heard information on the progress of a number of investigations. Namely, there was a report on the progress of an armed attack of a group of militants on police officers, military servants, civilians and organizations in the city of Grozny at night of 4 December.

It has been reported earlier that 11 armed militants on vehicles divided in three groups and made their way in the center of the Chechen capital. There they fired at police officers, civilians, houses and cars from firearms and grenade launchers. During the attack the bandits killed several police officers, and after that took refuge in the Print House and a nearby school. The special operation in Grozny took a few hours. All the perpetrators were killed and identified. Militants killed 14 police officers and 2 civilians, caused over 70 million rubles worth damage to citizens and organizations.

At the end of the meeting Mr. Bastrykin gave a number of explicit orders relating to the direction of investigations, identification and more active search for the persons responsible for the crimes.
