In Moscow Region man held on suspicions of taking child as hostage

The investigating bodies of the Moscow Region Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have launched a criminal investigation in a crime under paragraph “e” of part 2 of article 206 of the RF Penal Code (taking minor as a hostage) after a 9-year-old girl was taken hostage.

According to investigators, on 22 December 2014, at around 5 PM, an unidentified man armed with an air gun rang a doorbell in a flat in the village of Nakhabino, Moscow Region and introduced himself as a mailman. An elderly woman opened the door and let him in. The man started asking the woman if she had a son, showed her a picture of a man she did not know and when received negative answer pushed the woman to the stairwell. There was a 9-year-old girl in the flat.

The suspect was detained during a special operation of officers of the Russia’s Investigative Committee, Office of the Federal Security Service and Main Office of the Ministry of Interior for Moscow and Moscow Region. During the operation he fought back and was wounded in leg. The girl who was handcuffed to a radiator was not hurt.

An investigating team and criminalists are working at the scene. The suspect will be questioned soon. At present the investigators are finding out his motives.

The investigation is ongoing.
