In Crimea one of leaders of Majlis of Crimean-Tatar People held on suspicion of organization and participation in mass riots

The investigating bodies of the Crimean Republic Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee during an investigation in organization of and participation in mass riots (parts 1 and 2 of article 212 of the RF Penal Code) have held one of the leaders of NGO Majlis of Crimean Tatar People Akhtem Chiygoz.

According to investigators, on 26 February 2014, near the building of the Supreme Rada of the Crimean Autonomous Republic (State Council of the Crimean Autonomous Republic) during a rally of representatives of Majlis of Crimean-Tatar People unidentified people violated public order and rules of public events, ignoring legal requirements of Ukrainian police officers to stop, started calling upon the present Crimean Tatars to insubordination to legal requirements of representatives of authority, to violence and by their own example started to urge the present to use violence which led to mass riots involving use of violence against representatives of Russian Unity and self-defense of the Crimean Republic, damaging and destruction of property.

Yielding to the urges, the present unidentified Crimean Tatars deliberately took part in mass riots involving violence and damages to property ignoring legal requirements of representatives of authority, used force against representatives of Russian Unity and self-defense of the Crimean Republic, broke in the building of Rada, where they damaged property causing pecuniary damage of over 600 thousand rubles.

At present all circumstances of the incident are being looked at. The investigation is ongoing.
