Criminal investigation launched against former minister of natural resources and environment of Chuvashia

The investigating bodies of the Volga Interregional Environmental Investigations Direction of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have launched a criminal investigation against former minister of natural resources and environment of Chuvashia Anatoly Yermolayev. He is suspected of a crime under part 2 of article 286 of the RF Penal Code (exceed of authority).

According to investigators, in 2010, Yermolayev, serving as the minister of natural resources and environment of Chuvashia, illegally signed with Chuvash Forestry additional agreements to a contract on protection and reproduction of forests in the region with simultaneous buying and selling of forest plantations by means of which he groundlessly increased the maximum amount of timber procurement and changed the initial price. As a result of the suspect about 127 thousand cubic meters of mature and overaged trees were cut down in 12 forestries of Chuvashia.

At present investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
