A court has recognized the evidence gathered by Sverdlovsk Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee sufficient to convict a 34-year-old resident of the city of Yekaterinburg. He was found guilty of several counts of a crime under article 159 of the RF Penal Code (fraud), part 3 of article 30, part 4 of article 159 (attempted fraud on a very large scale – 1 count).

The court and investigators have found out that between January 2013 and February 2014, the defendant representing himself as a high-ranking official of one of the Sverdlovsk Region Ministries, as well as an official of Yekaterinburg city administration and referring to his acquaintances with regional high-ranking officials, offered citizens to buy flats, land and other property, allegedly owned by the state at a price lower than the market one by giving bribes to a number of officials. The condition he set forth was that he as a middle-man had to have 30% of the cost of property.

Receiving the money the defendant fled and did not accomplish his promises. The information he gave citizens was not true. He did not occupy the positions he claimed he did and was not able to provide any help in purchasing flats. By his wrongdoings he caused the victims damage of over 5 million rubles.

The court has sentenced the man to 4 years in prison to be served in a minimum-security penal colony.
