In Moscow Region former head of Vidnoye and his subordinate found guilty of extorting bribe

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by Moscow Region Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee sufficient to convict former head of the town of Vidnoye Sergey Troitsky and former head of consumer market and lease department of Vidnoye administration Pyotr Drozdov. They were found guilty of a crime under paragraphs “a”, “b” and “c” of part 5 of article 290 of the RF Penal Code (extortion of a bribe on a large scale).

The court and investigators have found that administration of Vidnoye regularly held weekend fairs organized by different businessmen. The accused extorted from one of them a bribe of 1 million rubles for issuing a permit on the fair. At first the two officials demanded 1 million 400 thousand rubles, but later the sum dropped to 1 million. As a result on 25 August 2013, Drozdov was held in a café while receiving 500 thousand rubles. Troitsky was arrested later.

The court has sentenced Troitsky to 8 years in prison and a fine of 60 million rubles, Drozdov to 4 years in prison and a fine of 25 million rubles.
