In Leningrad Region investigation launched in violation of rights of Great Patriotic War veteran

Leningrad Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have launched a criminal investigation in a crime under part 1 of article 285 of the RF Penal Code (abuse of office) following an appeal filed by a veteran of the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945 from the town of Gatchina claiming that her right on being provided with housing was infringed.

The resident of the town of Gatchina, Leningrad Region is a veteran of the Great Patriotic War and has been on the list of persons in need of better housing since 1995.

According to investigators, unidentified officials of the town of Gatchina sometime in November 2009 unreasonably struck the veteran off the list. In addition the officials of the town of Gatchina and Gatchina District despite numerous appeals concerning groundless decision to struck the woman from the list and complaints that it was impossible for the veteran to live in current conditions, during a long period of time have failed to take any measures to look at the veteran’s housing and restore her on the list of citizens in need of better housing. As a result of those actions despite the Russian law the veteran was deprived of her right to being provided with housing.

At present investigative activities are underway to find out all the circumstances of the incident and identify the guilty ones.
