In Kaliningrad Region investigation launched in death of children treated in Sovetsk Central City Hospital

The Kaliningrad Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have opened a criminal investigation in a crime under part 2 of article 109 of the RF Penal Code (reckless homicide due to improper discharge of professional duties) following the death of 4 small children treated in 2014-2015 in Sovetsk Central City Hospital.

The reason why the investigation was opened was appeal of Sovetsk residents published in mass media on 4 March 2015 claiming irresponsibility of doctors who had treated the children. In addition, investigators have conducted a check and revealed 3 more cases when children treated in the Sovetsk Central City Hospital died.

According to preliminary data, in 2014 and 2015 due to improper discharge by the staff of Sobetsk Central City Hosptial of their professional duties a newborn baby and three small children died during a period betwee November 2014 and March 2015.

The investigators are going to classify actions of the staff immediately involved in treatment of the children.

At present a number of investigative and search operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
