Former customs officials to appear in court in Moscow

Moscow investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have finished investigating a criminal case against former officials of the Russian Federal Customs Service Lieutenant General of customs service Alexey Shashayev and Colonel of customs service Yelena Soboleva and two local residents Igor Beregovsky and Vyacheslav Lysakov. Depending on the role of each one they are charged with crimes under part 3 of article 285 of the RF Penal Code (abuse of office), paragraph “c” of part 3 of article 286 (abuse of power) and part 4 of article 159 (fraud committed by an organized group on a very large scale).

According to investigators, in the period between November 2011 and February 2012 the accused ensured that OOO SBL-Technologies headed by Vyacheslav Lysakov won the tender for the state contract on supply of nonexclusive right to use software for Orakl software products. After the said company won the tender, part of the overstated cost of the contract was cashed and distributed among the members of the organized criminal group. This way by this scam the accused stole from the federal budget 125 million rubles allocated for the needs of the Federal Customs Service.

To compensate for the damage the investigators found the bank cells rented by the accused and confiscated and arrested 2.5 million US dollars.

Earlier one of the members of the organized criminal group Svyatoslav Sorokin was sentenced to 3 years in prison.

At present the criminal case with the approved indictment has been sent to court to be tried on the merits.
