In Saint-Petersburg four men arrested on suspicions of robberies and murders of elderly women

Saint-Petersburg investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continue investigating a criminal case opened on 3 April 2015 when a dead body of a local resident aged 69 was found in a flat in Veterans avenue (part 4 of article 162 of the RF Penal Code – robbery, paragraphs “g” and “h” of part 2 of article 105 - murder).

During investigative and search operations investigators together with the officers of the Interior Ministry Main Office for Saint-Petersburg and Leningrad Region have detained 4 men aged between 26 and 36. According to investigators, in the morning of 3 April 2015 the suspects disguised as workers of the housing and communal services got into the woman’s flat and beat her hard. After that they put a plastic bag on her head and stole over 1,300 US dollars and her personal belongings. The woman died on the scene.

During the probe the investigators have revealed that on 27 March 2015 two of the detainees got information that an elderly woman aged 82 lived alone in Kozlov street. They got into her flat, beat the woman and stole the 2nd degree Order of the Great patriotic War and other things. Then they fled the scene. The elderly woman was taken to hospital and died there of injuries on 5 April 2015.

At present the suspects are under arrest. Charges are expected to be brought soon. The investigation is ongoing.
