Investigation launched in collision of train and locomotive in Lipetsk Region

Moscow Interregional Transportation Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has launched a criminal investigation in a crime under part 1 of article 238 of the RF Penal Code (providing services that do not meet health safety standards) following a collision of a passenger train travelling from Volgograd to Moscow and the locomotive.

According to investigators, from 4:50 AM to 5:05 AM, 9 April 2015, during the stop of a passenger train travelling from Volgograd to Moscow at the 7th track at Gryazi-Voronezhskie station of Southeastern railway of the affiliate of OAO Russian Railways in Lipetsk Region, officials of the OAO Russian Railways provided transportation services that did not meet health standards. Namely, they failed to ensure that the passenger train was immobile while setting off the locomotive. As a result of actions of unidentified officials of the Russian Railways the passenger train after having been set off from the shunting engine started moving towards Peskovatka station and at Gryazi-Voronezhskie station collided with the locomotive that had been set off before that. At least 26 passengers of the train were injured in the incident.

At present the investigative team continues working at the site of the incident, they are questioning workers, locomotive crew, officials of the station and passengers of the train in presents of a doctor. The passenger train continued on its route and will arrive in Moscow soon.
