Trial starts on ex-mayor of Makhachakala Said Amirov and his accomplices

A hearing of the case against former mayor of Makhachkala Said Amirov, Yusup Dzhaparov, three Akhmedov brothers, Murad Aliyev, Magomed Kadiyev and Zubair Mutayev has started today in North Caucasian circuit court. Depending on the role of each one, they are charged with crimes under part 3 of article 30, paragraphs “b”, “g” and “h” of part 2 of article 105 of the RF Penal Code (attempted murder), article 295 (attempt on the life of a person exercising justice or carrying out preliminary investigation), part 2 of article 208 (membership in an illegal armed unit), part 2 of article 209 (banditry), paragraphs “a” and “c” of part 2 of article 205 (a terrorist attack) and part 3 of article 22 (illegal circulation of firearms).

According to investigators, the accused were involved in plotting a terrorist attack, an attempt on the life of acting head of the territorial investigation body of the Russia’s Investigative Committee in Dagestan Arsen Gadzhibekov, and other serious and very serious crimes in Dagestan.

The investigators gathered enough evidence so the criminal case with the approved indictment was sent to court to be tried on the merits.

Earlier the North Caucasian circuit court found Amirov and Dzhaparov guilty of plotting a terrorist attack by shooting from a shoulder-carried missile launcher Strela 2M at a passenger plane and they got sentences of 10 and 8.5 years in prison respectively.
