In Krasnodar Territory local man to stand trial on charges of killing Great Patriotic War veteran and attempted drug dealing

The Krasnodar Territory investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have finished the investigation opened against a 29-year-old resident of the town of Yeysk charged with killing an 87-year-old veteran of the Great Patriotic War (part 1 of article 105 of the RF Penal Code) and an attempted drug dealing by a group of people in previous conspiracy (part 3 of article 30, paragraph “a” of part 3 of article 228.1).

According to the investigators, the accused lived next door to the veteran and borrowed money from him via his friend’s mother. However, he failed to return the last debt of 30 thousand rubles. In the afternoon of 18 June 2014, he came to the elderly man to ask for more money to fix his car. The veteran refused and demanded that the man paid him the previous debt. Then the accused took out a knife and stabbed the veteran at least 7 times. The elderly man died on the scene.

In addition, in the period between March and August last year the accused and two acquaintances of his tried to sell drugs (marijuana) in order to get some money. However, they failed to finish their intention as were detained by the officers of the regional office of the Federal Drug Control Service, who confiscated the drug.

The accused were remanded in custody pending trial and are still kept in cells.

The investigators have gathered enough evidence so the criminal case with the approved indictment has been sent to court to be tried on the merits.
