In Moscow Vasilyeva jailed

Today Presnya District Court of Moscow has recognized the evidence presented by The Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee sufficient to convict former head of Property Relations Department of the Russian Ministry of Defense Yevghenia Vasilyeva and her accomplices. Depending on the role of each one, they were found guilty of crimes under articles 159, 174.1, 201 of the RF Penal Code (fraud; money laundering; abuse of power).

During the preliminary investigation the Defense Ministry got back all shares of crucial for the country’s defense OAO 31st State Design Institute of Special Construction, as well as buildings and premises located in Smolensky boulevard and Bolshoi Predtechensky lane in Moscow, and in the village of Arkhangelskoye, Moscow Region, worth a total of over 2 billion rubles.

In addition, by arresting property of the defendants, namely, Basilyeva’s 6 real estates located in Moscow and Saint-Petersburg, a 25-million-worth bank account, accounts of companies she controlled with over 300 million rubles on them, the investigators could compensate for the rest of the pecuniary damage caused to the state.

During the search in Vasilyeva’s residence the investigators found and confiscated 3.5 million rubles in cash, about 1.2 thousand pieces of jewelry made from gems and precious metals, watches of worldwide famous brands worth over 127 million rubles.

The court has sentenced Vasilyeva to 5 years in prison, Larisa Yegorina to 4 years and 3 months, Irina Yegorova to 4 years, yuri Grekhnev to 4 years, Maksim Zakutailo to 3.5 years, all to be served in a minimum-security penal colony.
