In Moscow Region member of gang to appear in court for several murders and attempts on businessmen

The Investigating bodies of Moscow Region Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have finished investigating a criminal case against a member of Alexander Matusov’s gang. The man is charged with several murders and attempted murders of businessmen (part 2 of article 15, part 2 of article 17.1, paragraphs “e”, “h” of article 102 of the RSFSR Criminal Code and part 2 of article 17.1, paragraph “h” of article 102 of RSFSR Criminal Code).

According to investigators, on 17 November 1996, in the village of Sverdlovskoye, Shchelkovo District, Moscow Region, the members of the criminal group, including Matusov, attacked 4 businessmen killing three of them and wounding the fourth one. In addition, during the probe the investigators got proves of close relation between the armed group and the organizers of Kingsepp armed gang.

Earlier a court sentenced 8 members of the gang including its leader to from 6 to 21 years to be served in a maximum-security penal colony. Matusov and another gangster Oleg Rogatin managed to escape. In June 2010, Matusov and Rogatin were put on a wanted list. In July 2014, Matusov was detained in Thailand thanks to cooperation of law-enforcement authorities of Russia and Thailand and them deported to the Russian Federation. Oleg Rogatin is still wanted around the world.

It is remarkable that during the investigation of the crime scene, a basement in the village of Zagoryansky, the investigators and witnesses found human bones. The remains were then identified by his relatives and it was found that the victim had been killed in 1996 by the gang Matusov had been a member of.

Alexander Matusov refused to make any statement.  He did not admit his guilt. At present the case with the approved indictment has been sent to court to be tried on the merits.
