Investigators request prosecutor to give them investigate case over animal cruelty in Sakhalin

After a lot of requests coming from citizens in person and via media addressed to the Chairman of the Russia’s Investigative Committee and asking to take control over the investigation in taunting of a bear in Kuril Islands and a massive resonance the case stirred in the public, the senior officials of the Investigative Committee for Sakhalin Region have requested the regional prosecutor’s office to give that case to be investigated in the Committee.

The footage posted in the Internet shows three local residents driving a SUV vehicle near the village of Reydovo on Iturup Island and running over a bear over and over again.

Cruelty of the suspects in treating the beast and cynicism of their comments make a normal person get indignant at the minimum and disgusted at the maximum. People do such things because they are neither smart nor brave and because they have their vehicles to protect them. But this is why we have the Penal Code to cut such “merry and brave chaps” down to size. The Investigative Committee will do its best to make one of the main principles of criminal law, unavoidability of punishment, not only work in this case, but to cool down other hot heads who might want to make something of a kind.
