The Moscow Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened a criminal investigation in a crime under part 4 of article 159 of the RF Penal Code (fraud on a very large scale).

The basis for the investigation is files of an audit check of the financial and economic activity of the Russian Federation of Basketball after its administration had changed.

According to investigators, in the period between 20 February 2014 and 24 August 2015, over 20 million rubles allocated for development of sports was stolen from the Russian Federation of Basketball by concluding fictitious civic contracts with sole proprietors.

At present, necessary investigating and procedural operations are under way to find out all the details of the crime and to assess the actions of the guilty ones. The investigation is ongoing, including the check of legality of all other transactions arranged during the said period of time.
