Probe launched in Saint Petersburg into death of two children in fire

The Saint Petersburg investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have opened a criminal investigation in a crime under part 3 of article 109 of the RF Penal Code (reckless homicide).

According to investigators, at night of 2 January 2016, a fire started for no apparent reason in a flat in Degtyarny lane where a 7-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl were. Both children were got out of the flat, however, they died in an ambulance vehicle on their way to a hospital. Their 27-year-old mother was out when the fire started.

At present, investigators are working at the scene, identifying and questioning witnesses, establishing all the details of the incident and trying to locate the victims’ mother. The investigation is ongoing.
